Hi Karen:
Sorry to post like this guys (smile)..That calf that I was telling you about..well he wound up in our pasture yesterday afternoon. Skinny, scrawney as can be too..I KNEW this was going to happen.
As I told you before my son does not work for Mike's aunt and uncle every day, he told them what to do, I do not know if they started it and it was too late, or they did not want to bother or what..but according to my son 3 of her utters are not working (did I say that right?) Mike's aunt also told us that she was bottling the calf 4 bottles per day and my son said no way was she doing that!! Anyway she tells us to give him 4 bottles per day, 1-1/2 in the morning, one in the afternoon and 1-1/2 in the evening. Now isn't too much milk not too good for them..I thought I read it causes the scours and more problems??
Todd spent the night w/his grandparents, so I gave him one bottle this morning, and some sugar water in a bottle this afternoon, there is water out there for him, but I haven't seen him drink any so I figured better be safe than sorry w/the water bottle. We use Advance Calvita Supreme Milk Replacer. Do you think I should be giving him anything else?? He does not seem sick or anything, just skinny..
You know I do not normally take to the calves..I just do not think they have any sort of personality but this little guy is different.he is soo sweet..I just hate it when we have just one..Right now I have him in w/the goats..and will seperate them at feeding time, so I can lay some feed out there for the calf..hoping he will eat a little bit and get some weight on him.
