Sounds like mastitis to me just double checked w/goat hater it is mastitis. You can either give Pennicillian and infuse the bag with mastitis treatment I have some Today (cephapirin sodium) for lactating cows. It cost only $18.99 for 12 tubes. Now my husband grew up on a dairy farm as did his dad. When our ewe got mastitis we of course called him to see what the best course of action was as we treated w/the mastitis tubes and she still had chunky milk. He said to milk her out and let the lamb nurse as much as possible. I know it's hard but have him milk out the cow (all 4 quarters) twice a day. Often the mastitis will resolve itself if this is done. Also the milk is ok for the calf to drink. It would probally be best if she will nurse him because then she will be drained more often than your son can do it. Good luck if you need anything else I will be checking in. Karen
