Todd definatly has the "touch"..it really does amaze me when I watch him. Of course he has loved doing this since he has been 3 (he is now 15). Unless there is a specific reason, he is the one who takes care of them, gets up at 4:30 am on a school morning to feed them, cleans their pen out and feeds them again in the afternoon. This is his choice, I have offered to feed them in the morning so he didn't have to get up so early and he said no, he wanted to do it.
We have lost one calf though, to serious bloat! We didn't know what to do, and by the time we got a hold of the vet it was too late, the poor thing. Other than that, so far we have had good luck w/them. We started doing this Thanks Giving Day as a matter of fact of 2001.
Todd would much rather deal w/the calves than the goats..I guess he thinks goats are higher maintanence. I prefer my goats, to me calves do not have personalities, and once they are off the bottles they don't come up to you anymore, and I like my goat kisses (smile)..
