Well I have 87 goats of various breeds including: Pygmy , Saanen , Nubian , Toggenburg , Boer , Alpine , Oberhasli , Mixed & TN Fainting Goats. To me it seems out of all mine that the Nubian's are the most lovable. Mostly all mine are friendly though except the Boer. I know alot of people are into Boer but , I can't stand them! I'm selling the few I got because there so hateful & unfriendly with people. There also bad about jumping fences. I only have one Boer who is 88% that is affectionate. She's only a few months old though. I have heard the La Mancha's are really friendly to.
Around here the non show quality Pygmy does are around $50 & Bucks or wethers are around $30. Not sure what the pricing in Canada runs though. I live in Virginia. Nubian's are pretty high here. Actually most goats here are going up unless there Boer because all the people are going to all Boer. Personally I wouldn't have a goat if all I could get was a Boer. Most people are just going to them because there meaty.
The Pygmy goats I have are very sweet to. Really the only ones that seem not to be are Boer. I have two Boer bucklings who are 4 months old. I raised & fooled with them from birth just like the rest of the kids & they are the hate fullest things ever was.
You mentioned Nubian's & Alpine's. There quite bigger in size than a Pygmy. I'll attach you a pic to the e-mail of one of mine.
One that has been bottle raised is a good choice for a pet to. The first goats I got were bottle babies & there all very tame & gentle. In case you don't see this. I'll e-mail it to you as well :-)
