What is in the goat ration. Feeds full of animal by products will sit in the rumen, rising the ph to the point of acidosis, which makes the doe actually only able to consume small amounts of grain, hay or browse. If there are any animal fats, protein, or by products in this pellet, slowly taken them from using it to another all grain feed. Most folks would be much happier with the looks of their goats if they would take the money they are spending on goat feeds, and feed a much better quality hay, and then just use some oats and corn for grain. Make sure your loose mineral is made for cattle or horses, anything that comes made for sheep and goats doesn't have enough of nearly anything for goats. Goats have very quick metabolisms so they need more of everything. Put some baking soda out for your does while you are changing their grains.
Run your hands over the ribs of your does, this is the only way of telling the condition of your does. You can not look at diary goats and see their condition. Just skin and ribs, yes they need to gain some weight, skin some flesh and ribs and that is perfect, skin roll of fat, flesh and you can barely feel the ribs? Jenny Craig time! Vicki
