Sherry, you might want to go over to Nubian Talk and read in the search about G6S, the lethal gene for dwarfism and internal (heart) problems, especially if you have bloodline of this buckling around. I had an article bookmarked on it, but it isn't there anymore.

We have never had Listerosis, though I have seen it at a farm I visited, to help. It was obvious the does had it because they had the typical half of the face paralysed, with a big cud and drooling out of that half of the mouth. They also were acting drunk and the ones who could walk by this time were circiling with their heads up. With the two different kinds of Listerosis, brain or septic, you can see a wide variety of symptoms, including bloody diarrhea, depression, no milk, very high fevers. Both kinds give can be shed into the milk of carrier goats and goats that are sick!

The does we treated with Dex, massive dosages of penicillin and IV tetracycline did improve, the does who were already down, died no matter what was done. Moldy hay was found, it also killed a number of horses in our area.

After this was over this continued to happen in this gals herd, to the point she has no more Nubians, though she has introduced Boers. It was not commonly known back then that there were does who got over this and then shed it, and that it also stayed in the inviornment. Vicki
