Hi Mary, What issue of Good Housekeeping is the article in? I am trying to talk hubby into getting a Great Pyr. It was a G.P. that got us into raising goats. About 1 1/2 years ago a 6-8 month old G.P. puppy wandered(or was dumped)onto our farm, he was so loving, friendly etc.etc.....We contacted our animal shelter to be sure that someone wasn't looking for him. Had to wait for 1 week then as no one claimed him, he then became ours. :) First we were happy then the big heartbreak came. We took him to the vet for a check up and shots, only to discover that he had "Parvo". It was in the early stages or so we all thought so we let the vet keep him and start treatment. After several weeks of ups and downs (we visited him daily),we were told we could take him home the following morning. When we went to pick him up in the a.m. he had taken a drastic turn for the worse, hemoraging etc. listless,no excitement to see us,he just laid there..Of course we were given the verdict and had to let him go. I never in my life became so attached to an animal so quickly as I did him. The short time that we had him we had named him "Bear" (not very original) but he knew his name and responded as though we had him from birth. We had been tossing around the idea of raising other animals besides cattle as they are so big and smaller animales would be eaiser for me to handle than the cattle. When Bear showed up on our farm we started researching Great Pyr's out on the web and that's where we discovered goats and got interested in raising them. Then we found Goat world :). One year later we have 25 goats, 10 of which are babies, and still a lot of learning going on. We feel that he came to us for a reason, to help us choose goats. We have a llama as a guard animal for our goats, and he is wonderful with them, however I really want a Great Pyr too (hubby says I just want one for me).I miss Bear, and so much want to fill that void if possible. Sorry if I have been rambling on,I get that way when I feel strongly about something. Gloria
