Hi Helene,
Don't be foolish....we don't mind questions. You know we are here for you. I would say that if Eris is mowing down on the hay, it is a good sign. I would continue offering the grain...maybe try to do some hand feeding, till she is feeling better. I would think it would be at least a week before you see her acting semi-normal. Im sure the anesthesia that she was given has some effect on the intestinal system ( as it does in humans). So, eating the hay will keep that rumen in order. You also might want to try some baking soda. Also, maybe some pro-bios, as the antibiotics kill off the good bacteria in the gut. The probios will put it back in, as would yogurt. As far as the messy rear-end. I felt the same way when my girls kidded.....gotta clean up that mess. Well, they didn't like that idea. So, finally I just let them be, and the discharge dried up and fell off without my help...imagine that(smile;))
Take care and keep us posted.
~Mary
