Hi! I'm back and looked at my posting-done half asleep late last night and economizing on words while just bringing up another point. Boy, did that sound terse! Ouch! Sorry!
We do use pepto bismol (which also coats the gut lining-the secret to its succes in treating Montezuma's revenge until antibiotics can be obtained by preventing the organism from easy access to the gut lining).
Kaopectate, being clay based, will absorb the moisture among its other properties, as will metamucil, etc.
None of the above will make the gut propel-they will simply allow it to do so on its own.
In cases of infestation with a parasite, coccidia, etc., the least time they are allowed to harbor in a stagnant area, the better-hence the reluctance to use immodium if infestation is suspected.
Immodium actually slows down the gut.In those cases where you want to slow it down, it is, of course, certainly appropriate. Great idea, in fact, to counteract the "squirts" produced by a product whose temporary side effect may have been to speed up the gut too much! I'm certainly not running down to the barn to throw the bottle out of the medicine cabinet!
