Call me crazy. I knew that people could get it, and some other species, but I didn't know that horses could get it.
About... last summer... I think, or was it early this year.. one of our Antique horses (34 yrs old) had a mystery "growth" on his throatlach area. It got so big that I had to call the vet out to remove it because he couldn't swallow. He had his bump for a few years before it ruptured. (It was orange sized in the end) I was scared of strangles, but it wasn't. Contained to one horse. They tested the weird thing and it wasn't cancer --- but could it have been CL ???????
AUGH.... I hope I'm very wrong. I really wanted to get a purebred doeling out of her this fall. The kid she threw this year was a R. Grade that ended up as 3rd place kid at nationals. Should I be concerned that her kids are also carriers of CL?? Right now she's locked up inside. I will pressure wash the pens out as soon as I know what's happening with it all.
Thanks everyone for helping sherlock holmes figure this out!
