The first step I use when training to lead is to clip the goat to the fence for 15 minutes at a time. I use two snaps, one is a swivel snap so he/she won't hurt or break their neck. I like to stay by them and brush or rub them all over so they get use to being touched. When they stop fighting trying to get loose from the collar then I can start the leading training. I have also found that instead of getting ahead of them and pulling I have better luck staying by the shoulder and letting them think they are getting away and I just stay beside them and pretty soon we are walking together.
