Like the CL vaccine that is once again all in vogue, the sore mouth vaccine used to be. Problem is it didn't work well. Once your animals have soremouth they will produce antibodies that fight it and give this to their kids, via colostrum. Unless you bring in new stock that has another kind of soremouth, your does won't catch it. We actually just introduced the stock into all the pens so everyone would get it an get over with it. There really is no treatment, though on nusing dams udders and kids mouths you really have to be careful. We took any cheap oil and sprayed the mouths of the does everyday, to keep the sores moist. Though we had it years back, we haven't had it recently. We did 4 or 5 years ago come home from a show with contagious icthama, the body form of soremouth, just imagine loosing dinner plate size pieces of skin on your best does! It healed and you can't tell anything was wrong, but while it was happening, nobody came to visit! Vicki
