I agree with you Helene, although private auctions are completely differant than sale barn auctions. When we first decided to get into the goats we purchased from what we thought was a reputable breeder got 11 of the goats home and you couldn't even look at them and they would run away from you. Eventually we did make a few learn to trust us and we learned as well that he purchased his goats from sale barn auctions, he didn't raise them or breed them. Out of the 11 that we purchased from him we will probably cull 7 of them, and have began working with another breeder we know that we can trust and they are taken very good care of. I have heard of the private auctions and I think you can get a good animal out of them but I agree with what you said thats why they are having an auction to get rid of the ones they can't sell, although the real high profile people have them I think they do have good stock, but the animals bring more money than what I the average Joe can afford.
