Vicki
That is very interesting what you were saying about taking one of the sited does from the mother and bottle feeding and raising them both together. As I said before, I really love this board and all of the wonderful information.

I have not experienced my first birth yet, but I have 3 getting ready to kid within the next few weeks. This is all new to me, and I have been reading about it like crazy just incase I am left home alone and there is a problem and there sits me not knowing what to do.

Let me ask you a question, because I am curious, if you took one of the kids from the mothers (not that I have any plans of doing so) and bottle fed it, how does the mother react? doesn't she get angry? I would assume you would put the kids in a seperate pen than the other goats until they are weaned am I correct. This is what we did when we got our bottle fed babies, but we got them from someone else, we did not have their mothers with us.

Also, I have another question, as you all know recently we put our weaned bottle fed babies in the pasture with the other goats, and when it comes to feeding time, the older goats push the babies away, now I know they are not starving to death, but would assume they need some kind of nurishment that comes from the feed. We tried putting out seperate bins for the little ones, yet the big ones gobble down their feed and then move over to the little ones, my concern is that the little ones are not getting what they need. How does anyone else solve this problem?
