I made the mistake of getting two 6 mo. old male pyrs (littermates) at the same time. Have Mercy! Within a few weeks I was ready to use them for target practice. One very cold morning I found one of the more timid wethers laying wet and nearly frozen on the ground. These dogs had nearly "romanced" him to death. If I'd been late feeding that morning he probably wouldn't have survived.

A friend wanted to borrow one to breed to his female and later asked to buy the dog. I told him give me a puppy and we'll call it even. Still waiting on the puppy. So, with only one dog I thought it would be better. And, I guess it was. At least there was only one huge dog playing Romeo with the little ones instead of two. So, to teach him a lesson, I switched goats on him. I replaced all the small helpless animals with a couple of kick-butt bucks. Mount them babies, sucker! That dog hasn't mounted anything since. I doubt if he ever will again!

The dog is about 18 months old now. (I fought long and hard with the urge to shoot, sell, shock, dismember, etc. him.) I put him with my milkers about a month ago and he doesn't mess with those old battle axes either! There's one six week old wether in there and I've never seen the dog make a move toward him (probably because Auntie Matilda has a word of prayer with anyone messing with the Little Prince!). I am hoping that Monkey's rebellious days are over.

You didn't say how old your dog is so I don't know if that is the problem. If he's young, give him a chance to grow out of it. I think you were smart to keep him away from the sick guy. Since mine is older I've noticed he tends to stay closer to anyone not feeling well and lately that has helped me out a lot. Monkey does protect the goats and he always has. That was the only reason he lasted! I'm glad I stuck it out...even though I still want to......but just sometimes!

So, in answer to your question about pyrs...Boy! Howdy! Yeah! They can be a big ole pain in the keester but the first time the neighbor tells you he saw "that big white dog you have" tear hell out of a stray that was in your pasture, you'll be glad you have him!
