There are many site on the web about LGD's and rescue groups have many that need new homes. Because I wanted a LGD I have been communicating with the rescue group. Tere are lots of folks out there that wnat to give up these huge dogs.
Ideally a dog that is experienced is more helpful. I prefered a female Akbash about 3 yrs old. Akbash are supposed to be more layed back than GP.
For one week I have been the foster mom of a 10 month old male Akbash/Anatolian Shepherd. (they are one and the same. He is a gem. I dont' know his history but he is as sweet as anything. Like a big baby and he allows me to clean his ears and brush his teeth. However he will not be much of a good working dog until he is about 3 yrs old.
From what I read, puppies fo this breed should be within close proximity of the animals that they are in charge of but not allowed to stay alone with them unless they have a barrier. LGD'd are slwer to mature than smaller dogs.
So in conclusion you would need an older experienced dog if you expect service immediately.
