We raise Boers and Great Pyrs (GP/Anatolian Crosses, too). We find pups born in the pasture with working parents are starting to work at as young as 3-4 months old. They mimic the behavior of the parents and are working the fenceline and barking. They love the goats. The females tend to stay with the herd more and the males guard the perimeter.
We adopted an older working LGD dog the other year - what a nightmare - she dug out of the fence and took off. We and many other people searched. We posted signs. Picked up and ran anytime somebody THOUGHT they saw her. Turns out 3 months later she was found - dead on the road 30 miles away. We will NEVER do that again! that fiasco began our Great Pyr breeding program.
