Kidding/Labor ?

Posted by Ken on April 21, 2001 at 16:21:50:

Hi,
We are newbie goat owners.Had ours almost a yr.One of our Nubians kidded last week, triplets,no problem.
Two nights ago another doe began moaning, pawing at the ground, etc.
we never saw any discharge, thought we saw contractions.Yesterday in the day she was up walking, eating, seemed comfortable.Last night, back to moaning.Today she is up and eating, breathing faster than normal though.
We no longer can feel kid on her side.We could yesterday.Anyway, we had a "goat lady" neighbor take a look at her.She thought from what we described she had gone into labor and the kids had died possibly. She did do an internal exam to see if she could feel them. But she couldn't and still no discharge.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Is the goat in trouble, are we over reacting? Do we just wait? What now? This other person says as long as she is eating, don't worry. The worst part is there is no local vet that is any good with goats. Please help.
Thanks,
Ken
