Candy Product
by Gary Pfalzbot
About the Author

Candy product is a general term used to refer to various by-products of the candy industry. Candy by-products are candy items that hit the floor and scrapings. There will be a small amount of paper scraps, and perhaps a little wood from pallets. The product is mixed with drums.

Analyses will vary; that shown below is for a ground product consisting of chocolate candy products, peanut skins, candy biscuits, and paper wrappers. It is slightly lower than corn in protein but higher in fat and energy. Due to the high fat content it should be limited to no more than 5 pounds per head per day. This level will supply about 1 pound (.45 kg) of added fat to the ration. Higher levels of rumen-available fat in rations for milking cows tend to cause reduced fiber and calcium digestion and poor performance.

Candy product is very palatable and is readily consumed by cattle.
