522.1696a Sterile benzathine penicillin G and procaine penicillin G suspension.

Specifications:
Each milliliter contains 150,000 units of benzathine penicillin G and 150,000 units of procaine penicillin G in aqueous suspension.

Conditions of use:

Cattle (beef)

Amount:
2 milliliters per 150 pounds of body weight subcutaneously. Repeat dosage in 48 hours. Limit treatment to two doses.

Indications:
Treatment of bacterial pneumonia (shipping fever) (Streptococcus species, Corynebacterium pyogenes staphylococcus aureus); upper respiratory infections such as rhinitis or pharyngitis (Corynebacterium pyogenes); and blackleg (Clostridium chauvoei).

Limitations:
Not for use within 30 days of slaughter.

NAS/NRC status:
These conditions are NAS/NRC reviewed and deemed effective. Applications for these uses need not include data as specified by 514.111 of this chapter.

CFR Tolerance

Penicillin.

Tolerances are established for residues of penicillin and the salts of penicillin in food as follows:
a. In cattle: 0.05 part per million (negligible residue) in the uncooked edible tissues
b. In chickens, pheasants, quail, swine, and sheep: Zero in the uncooked edible tissues
c. In milk or any processed food in which milk has been used: zero
d. In eggs: zero
e. In turkeys: 0.01 part per million in the uncooked edible tissues
