Description
Very little is known (yet) about this breed, or possible breed of goat, the Chishti. I was sent these photos from a person in Pakistan who relates that this goat came from a farm in Sahiwal (Pakistan). Apparently, this breed is from a village call Chishtiya near Sahiwal and they (local area residents) call this breed Chishti.
The goat pictured above came in second in the competition which was held in Faisalabad, Pakistan, November 2008 and its weight was 230kg.
Notes
In doing some basic research, Chishti also appears to be a surname of some individuals throughout region of Pakistan and India. There is also reference to an early tribe or caste known as Chishti which by all rites, is essentially a form of Islam which describes sacrificing the goat (two goats for a male child and one goat for a female child).
As has been the case with other breeds not common to the United States or North America, I periodically receive inquiries from people wondering where they can get a start of this particular goat breed. Please understand, this goat may only be available in the country of origin and I generally do not know how to go about telling you how to import one to the United States.
I will be adding more information on this potential breed as I find it. For now, please enjoy the pictures.
