No. Selenium deficiency may cause weak kids but not early abortion. She describes chlamydia abortion perfectly. There is no other symptom other than abortion at 2 to 4 weeks premature. This is what a normal fetus looks like at 2 weeks premature. Kids born even a week early have little chance of survival. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

She just told me today that she was feeding these does solinium until it ran out 2 weeks ago. The early does didn't get any. She was told it would help with stronger kids. Is there a chance this is what caused the kids to be born with no hair and alive? |

One of the most common causes of late gestation abortions is the bacteria chlamydia (same one that causes pinkeye). I would give LA 200 (oxytetracycline) at 1 cc per 30 pounds by SQ injection every other day for 3 doses to all pregnant does and any bucks. This should help stop the abortion storm. This disease is sexually transmitted. There is also a vaccine that may help next season. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

My friend is having some troubles. Her does are kidding about two weeks premature. Kids are between 7-8 lbs with not much hair, eyes open part way, very thin skinned, very weak and only living for a few hours. It seems like the does start to get a bag and next thing you know their dropping kids. Her early kids in Dec. where just fine just can't figure out what is going on with this bunch. These does are being fed the same feed as the Dec. does. Still has a bunch to kid any way to prevent from happening any more? |
