SHe sounds like she is doing fine now. Small kids are like premies they sleep more start slower. What dose were you using on the ivermectin? Giving it orally? Most vets for some reason still recommend fenbendazole even with years of evidence with many species that it no longer works. The only worm that panacur may kill that ivermectin does not is tapeworms and then you have to give a double dose of panacur for at least 3 days.... If iveremctin isn't working for you switch to synanthic or cydectin. You can find dosage recommendations at www.fiascofarm.com Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I feel a little better now. I just went out to check on her and she was standing up trying to get around a feed bucket. After fussing with it a few minutes she got past it squeled and ran to her mother and started sucking. Maybe I am just not cathcing her when she is awake. |

We have always used ivermec in past. A few months back we lsot 6 kids, vet said stomach worms, needed to add another wormer too the program to kill stoamch worms that the ivermec wouldn't kill. Beats me, I just did what I was told. This kid has had several yellow sticky BM's that I have cleaned off her because it was like yellow glue bubbles.I talk to her she opens her eyes like go away and leave me alone. She hates the drench, spits and screams and is strong enough to argue. Just wants to sleep. But she should want to play by today at least run around a little. If she was preme would that cause her to want to sleep so much, she is tiny, we had pigmies that were born bigger. |

Has she pooped? If she is not pooping yellow yet she may be constipated and getting dehydrated (she will also have a tummy ache from being too full). Give an enema, a Fleets Infants Enema works well. Be sure the doe is giving milk, sometimes the colostrum is too thick to suck and even though a kid nurses they will starve. Newborns are not born with worms. But you should deworm the does the day they kid. Panacur is mostly useless in most of this country. I recommend switching to ivermectin injectable for cattle and swine but give it orally to goats at 1 cc per 25 pounds. Please deworm all of your goats if you have been using panancur or safeguard. Check all of the goats lower inner eyelids for color. They should be deep rosy or salmon pink. If they are pale pink or white they are anemic from worms. If any are anemic or borderline, give the ivermectin for 2 days and repeat in 2 weeks. Start deworming the kids at 6 to 8 weeks old. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

We have a new boer kid born yesterday afternoon. She is from a first time mother that is 1 year old. She is very very tiny, seems healthy has sucked, had drench but she sleeps all the time. Doesn't seem to play or move around much. If get her up she walks over and nurses, but then ends up laying down to sleep again. A few months back we lost some kids to stomach worms, could this newborn need panacure? Is newborn to young? Any sugestions? |
