Might help, you can email it to me privately if that is easier. Goats don't utilize a block very well, their tongues are too small and too smooth. Most blocks don't have enough copper and zinc either. I am beginning to suspect ringworm. Check in the very margins of the bald spot to see if there is any scabbing at all or if the hair is loose there and about to come off. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

She 3 weeks old. And we are milking her mom and feeding her that plus supplementing with whole cow milk. She does have acces to feed, hay and a multi-mineral salt block. We haven't seen the clumps actually come out. But some of the clumps that are left seem to have a scab where they are attached. She doesn't have dry skin or dandruff. Her hair is soft and shiny. The spot is completely bald. Her skin and hair are good. Comparable to her sister. Would a pic help? |

How old is this kid? What kind of formula are you feeding? Does she have access to feed, hay and minerals? Are the tufts coming out with some scaly skin or a tiny scab attached? Does she have dry skin, dandruff? Is the hair dry or soft and shiny? Is the hair growing back in on the bald spot? Is it completely bald or just very thin hair? How does her skin and hair compare to another kid in your herd of similar age but dam raised? Dermatophilus can cause hair loss but there is usually some scabbing or scaliness, this is often linked to zinc deficiency, but is most often seen in older (at least weaned) animals. Zinc or copper deficiency is often linked to balding or thinning hair, poor hair coat, dry skin. Could be your formula lacks something....I have noticed my kids will start to utilize the loose minerals as early as 4 weeks old.... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

The hair looks like it is coming off in small tufts. The bald spot is dry, but not scaly and there are no signs of lice. |

If she is scratching some it could be lice or ringworm. Is the bald patch scaly or dry? Look for lice along her topline especially tiny nits (yellowish oblong eggs attached to the hair shafts). Is she squeezing through a hole in the fence or into a hide box or creep feeder and rubbing the hair off? I have a creep feeder for my kids and some of the larger ones will squeeze through it (like a fat woman in a girdle) and rub hair off.... Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have a kid that we are bottle feeding because her mom will not feed her. She now has a bald patch on one of her shoulders that is getting larger. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks |
