They may not give anything until they actually kid, the size of the bag has nothing to do with the ability to produce milk. Trying to milk them days or weeks before they kid just destroys the natural wax plug in the teat predisposing the goat to mastitis. Don't worry about the colostrum until AFTER she is done kidding. And always bank any extra colostrum (say from does that lose one or all of their kids at birth) for those does that need help or orphan kids that need it.

Thank You for your help. Thought I was the only one having this problem. My last three does have done this. I have another one due 4-11 she has a pretty little bag, but I caught her up after having this problem, tried to milk her and got nothing.

Hard to say what might cause this, but you need to milk out as much as you can (it usually gets a litlle easier but never easy enough for the kids to get out until you start getting milk) and tube it or bottle it to the kids after diluting it with a bit of milk. Do not microwave the colostrum to warm it, it will turn solid. Continue milking the doe until she comes into milk. Then the kids should be able to nurse fine. But they need the colostrum.

I had a couple of does do this, never more than once each. But now I check every doe as she kids to be sure the colostrum will come out easily.

The teats are also plugged with wax before the kids start nursing. This keeps bacteria from entering the udder before the kids start nursing. I also make sure this plug is out right after she kids. The plug will appear dark brown or black in the orifice when you look at the tip of the teat.

I am having kids, thinking they are doing great. I see them nursing, come to find out the does colostrum is too thick and the kids cannot get it out of the teat. What can be causing this?
