She won't be immune but she shouldn't be a carrier either if she is treated. I would treat any goat that aborts to help insure she doesn't remain a carrier. Chlamydia can cause permanent sterility in humans if it remains at a chronic level. I would imagine it can do the same to a doe. Being a possible carrier is why one treats the buck too... Maggie, Will a doe be immuned to chlamydia after she aborts, or treated with the antibotic, or will she be a carrier for life? |

You can give the LA 200 every other day for 3 treatments for chlamydia prevention during an abortion storm. Don't forget to treat you buck too. Chlamydia is a sexually trasmitted disease. I believe that is what you are experiencing. Treat all the does and the buck. Sandi is right there is no treatment for toxoplasmosis (this is a parasite often spread by barn cats and kittens urinating and defecating in your hay), it just has to run its course. Bob - You should start by treating all your animals with oxy-tetracycline, like LA-200. The dose is 1cc/30 lbs, given for 3 to 5 days. Two of the main causes of abortion are Chlamydia and Toxoplasmosis. For chlamydia, the treatment is oxytetracycline. For toxo, I don't think there is a treatment. There are other possible causes, like mineral deficiencies and toxic plants or chemicals, but I'd start with the oxy-tetracycline. Do a search for abortion causes in goats - there is a lot of information on the web about this, but some of it is conflicting. |
