An update on this kid. He completed his Naxcel, but still sounded very congested, poor appetite, kind of listless. He's hungry, but after just an ounce or two, he stops, coughs and walks way. I took him back to the vet, who confirmed that he has pneumonia. He is now on Baytril and an injectible anti-histamine to try to clear his lungs. We're feeding him small amounts as often as we can get to the barn. Fortunately, I have the weekend off, so I'm feeding him every few hours. Sandi |

It's thick yellowish. I got some Naxcel from the vet and will begin treating both immediately. Thanks, Sandi |

What color is the nasal discharge? If it is clear this is likely a virus. If it is thick and white, yellow or greenish he has a bacterial infection and should be on antibiotics. I like to use Naxcel (vet prescription) for respiratory infections, give 1 cc per 50 pounds (give double on the first dose), by SQ injection twice a day. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I've got a sick bottle baby, 3 weeks old, approx. 15-20 lbs. Two days ago, he started with a stuffy nose, not taking his whole bottle and seems listless. He stays in the barn, usually with his head down and facing the wall, and he doesn't play outside with the other kids. He is always eager for the bottle, but only takes a few swallows at a time and stops after 3 or 4 ounces (he was taking 20 oz at a time). We've given him children's cold medicine and have been feeding him more frequently. His temp was 102.5 this morning. I'm wondering if I should give antibiotics. I've got another bottle kid who also has the same snotty nose. He has to take frequent breaks because of the stuffy nose, but he still takes the whole bottle and is otherwise lively and playful.
