If this kid is over 3 or 4 days old it may be enterotoxemia. Check the temperature, they sometimes have a fever at the beginning. Many herds are having this worse this year than in years past. Were the does vaccinated with CDT 6 to 8 weeks before kidding? This often helps boost the antibodies for this disease in the colostrum and helps protect the baby for the first 2 to 4 weeks of life. I have also been giving my newborns the CD antitoxin (this is not the vaccine but is the injectable given when treating an actual case of enterotoxemia). To treat enterotoxemia it is best to start right as the kid looks alittle off. Give penicillin at 1 cc per 15 pounds, giving the first dose half orally and half by SQ injection. Give the CD antitoxin according to the label instructions. You have to repeat every 6 hours or so. Prognosis is still very poor but its worth a shot. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

How old is this baby? Did it get any colostrum? You can tube feed it. I had a similar experience today. You can give Bo Se and that might help. Check it's temp it should be around 102.5 keep it warm. I gave Bo Se to my baby doe that was born today and had wonderful results. Check out my thread titled weak kid, from today. Good Luck Dawn |
