Ugh! Today the little girl is no better...still has blood in poop but poop is yellow. She cries when she poops or is moved. I have a question about the dosage of Biosol. My bottle says 1/4 t. for 25 lb. of weight. Wouldn't that be more like 1/4 cc Biosol for 2 cc of water for her weight of 3 3/4 lb.? I am also giving Albon. Don't want to overmedicate but want to give enough to do good. She is not active, walks slowly but did try to bounce and fell down. She looks gaunt and rather pot-bellied. She is still nursing well though but looks like she is losing body mass. Any more thoughts? Thanks for the help so much. |

Thanks, thanks, thanks, she is so much better today, I feel she is on the way to a full recovery. Her poop is now bright yellow with no blood,(it was still quite tinged this morning)and she is nursing longer and stronger, more alert and active. I have her out in sun with mom and brother though it is windy and quite chilly today. I'll bring her in tonight and make a couple of trips to the barn during the night, like I did last night, lol and hopefully tomorrow she will be great. Again I appreciate your knowledge and concern and compassion. You have another star in your crown. :-) |

No stopping the pen won't hurt and Biosol is an antibiotic better suited to digestive infections. Mix 1/4 teaspoon in 10 ccs of water. 1.5 cc will treat her for the entire day, so give her 1/2 cc three times a day. Please be sure to dilute it! The dose from the vet on the Albon is correct. I weighed her...she weighs 3 1/2 lb. What is the proper dosage for Biosol for that weight? The albon I have is for dogs (my vet said that works for goats????) 2 1/2 cc day 1 and half that for days 2-5. Does that sound ok? She has nursed well this afternoon. I don't want to lose her. I will stop the pen with just the one shot...will that cause problems if she does have something going on like infection? I plan on keeping her inside tonight but visiting her mom for feedings before bed and in the morning. |

Albon is fine. Oxytet reacts with milk if both are given orally. Now that you are seeing some blood in the poop I concur with Barbara and would treat for both cocci (with Albon) and e. coli or salmonella (with Biosol). Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic
