Some milk substitutes are not good for kids. If it has soy or wheat protein in it it is not good for kids. There is a very good homemade milk replacer on the Article page. Sounds like either goat polio (a thiamin deficiency) or enterotoxemia (which can have neurological signs, but is a severe digestive disorder). I lean towards it being enterotoxemia, which is pretty common in young bottle raised kids, especially if they didn't get enough colostrum. To treat polio you need to give freguent fairly high doses of injectable thiamin (vitamin B1). Use Fortified B Complex Injectable and give 1 cc per 20 pounds by SQ injection every 4 hours for the first 2 days then 2 to 3 times a day for 5 to 7 more days. To treat enterotxoemia (although this is often a lost cause) you need to give high doses of penicillin every 4 to 6 hours 1 cc per 15 pounds by SQ injection. You also need to give the CD antitoxin (this IS NOT the vaccine, but is the injectable used to treat an actual case of enterotxemia). Kids that do not get the doe's colostrum within 3 to 4 hours of birth often do not survive. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Yes, they sell 4% milk at the store, it often called WHOLE milk usually has a red top, it does not have any fat removed from it. It is not 2%, not 1%, not skimmed (fat free), it is Whole and/or Homogenized milk, it will say somewhere on the label that is has 4% fat. Give the kid an enema, it is slightly dehydrated from not eating enough and the poop has become hard. It has to poop to live. A Fleet's Infant enema from the drug store should work fine, use about 1/3 of it for a litle pygmy. If you have a feeding tube and syringe you can use this for an enema. Use 6 to 10 cc of warm water, , lube the tip if the tube with vaseline, insert the tube about 1 inch into the rectum and slowly inject the water. This should help the kid poop. You need to stimulate the kid to poop too, do this by wiping the anus and tail area with a damp paper towel or wash cloth. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Use the 4 percent whole cow's milk or this recipe from the articles page: 1 gallon whole 4% milk 1 can evaporated milk (DO NOT USE SWEETENED CONDENSED) 1 cup buttermilk From the gallon of milk pour out about 1/3 and set it aside to be added back later. Pour into the gallon, 1 can evaporated milk, and 1 cup buttermilk. Then add back some of the milk you set aside to make a full gallon of formula. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

You can try an enema. A Fleets infant Enema from the drug store usually works well, give half to a pygmy goat kid. No it won't hurt but you have to get her pooping and eating again soon. Try switching to the milk replacer recipe on the articles page or just plain cows milk like from the grocery store. You can also tube feed her if she absolutely refuses to eat. You can try holding the doe up and helping the kid to nurse too. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Yes the formula should be very warm, that is what I said. Has she pooped? Does her belly feel full? Is it possible the doe is feeding her when you are not looking? Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic
