Debbie,

I tend to agree with Violet. We had a similar situation with triplets, the boys were fine, the girl much smaller and trouble with the back legs. We give all kids BoSe at birth, but with two healthy brothers on the teat and weak legs, this girl wasn't getting her share. We started her on a bottle, and after 2 days she was up and running with the herd. She just needed a little more help than her brothers. A word of caution - if you bottle feed formula, the mom will probably reject her. You might try milking the mom and bottle feeding that to the weak kid so you are sure she's getting enough, but she will still smell the same.

What happened with the other two? Too young, too weak? I ask because both my neighbors have had several early deliveries of weak or mummified kids, and a few kiddings where the kids appeared full term, but died within hours after being born. We have been treating all 3 herds for possible Chlamydia. Any does born this year will be treated with oxy-tet prior to breeding next year, as well as the buck.

Good luck with your little one!

Hi Debbie, My guess is that she needs selenium. I would give her about 3/4cc of BoSe.(Get from Vet) That is usually the cause of the weak back legs. They usually get better fast. I would also give her a 10cc warm water eneima. Watch to see what she passes. If she still has problems, I would give another with a little veg. or mineral oil in it to loosen things up. Let us know how it goes, and how she is doing.

One of my boer moms had quads on Monday. 2 died, 2 living. One is half the size of the other and cannot walk on back legs... I'm guessing she weighs less than 5lbs... very tiny. Her front legs are strong and she gets up on them easily and she's dragging herself. She can stand on her own if i position her back legs under her but the minute she tries to walk, they just pop out straight or buckle under her. I'm hoping her legs with strengthen in a few days - she's very tiny.

Also, she has passed her meniscum (sp? black tarry poo) but has not had another bowel movement (yellow) .. not one!...or urinated that I know of. She is nursing from mom but we have to hold her up and she doesn't suckle for more than a minute. Her belly feels full and hasn't changed so I know she's not expelling anything.. her rear end is just as clean... its as if her digestive system is not working. I have given her some probios yesterday and a sqirt of nutridrench.

She is very alert and doesn't appear weak. Those back legs just aren't locking in place but when she does final get there.. just wags her little tail like crazy like she's so proud of herself.

Need advice...the digestive thing has me very worried. I know whatever goes in, must come out. I plan to try a baby enema this evening if nothing changes, but what can I do about her urinating? I have tried a warm wet rag and gently rub her there but no luck. Mom hasn't taken any interest in her but does let her nurse when we hold her there.
