Thank you for the info. It makes perfect sense. It was well below freezing the night she was born. The top of ear is normal where there would be more bloodflow. I will keep a eye on the ear. Your information put us at ease. |

Hi June, As Nancy mentioned, it could be frostbite. I am dealing with a case of that right now with one of my goats. And as Nancy said, the affected parts of the ear could fall off... What I have done for this situation is to use a product called Udder Balm and gently massage a copious amount onto the affected ear. I think in the more severe cases the affected ear is very feverish to the touch for several days. As frostbite runs its course, crusty scabs will appear. Pay particular attention to these areas and keep them well lubricated with Udder Balm or Vaseline. There is also a Terramycin ointment that you could apply. Just keep the areas moist and things should be okay. Best regards, Gary Pfalzbot |

could be frostbite, I have had this happen when it is extremely cold.Noit sure if there is much you can do.Mine were not real bad and they did not loose any of the ear , but have seen it where the ear/or part of will fall off eventually . I would say they need an antibiotic if it is real bad. Bluebird Farm tennessee fainters Blue rock, West virginia

We just had a kid born two days ago. Her ears are puffed up and feel like they are filled with jelly. When I pinch them I feel the gel move away. Could this be some kind of infection? Other than her ears she seems fine. |
