No fever, no nasal discharge. She was born on my farm, so she hasn't had to go thru a change in homes. She was wormed with valbazen at a month old, then again last weekend. She's had her CD/T's and is on her 5th day of albon treatment. She has had all 5 days of the excenel treatment, as well. I have my barn set up so that all my kids can get into a dry, well bedded, creep feed area, where they have access to heat lamps for cold nights. I live in SE Indiana. The weather here has been crazy. 30's one day, 60's the next. |

Theresa, I'm over in SE Ohio. All my little boers tend to sound a bit snorty as compared to my neighbor's dairy herd, especially when the weather is very wet. We think it's because the boers originated in a hot, dry climate. At her age, you need to watch for signs of worms (diarrhea, pale conjunctiva), or infection (yellow or green nasal discharge, temp over 103.5). I know a lot of people like to give LA-200, but I try to avoid it unless there is evidence of fever. If you do start it, you need to continue for at least 5 days. I think the exenel is a good way to go unless there are other symptoms. You didn't mention if she was born on the farm, or recently aquired. If she's new to the farm, it could be just stress from the adjustment. She's close to weaning age, so that's a stress too. Sandi |

Do you have a temp on her? Does she have nasal discharge if so what color is it? Has she been wormed for lung worms? Barbara Howard jamesa@mrtc.com 606-522-3388 KY

I have a 9 week old fullblood boer doeling that has been sounding really congested, especially at night when she is laying down. She acts as though she is having trouble breathing thru her nose. (Almost sounds like she is snorting) She acts fine otherwise, though. She is playful and eats well. I have been giving her excenel for respiratory, and children's benedryl in case it is an allergy. I have had her on these medicines for 4 days, and I have not noticed any change. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? or any thing else I should try. I feed straight alfalfa hay, sometimes it is dusty. She has sounded kind of like she was snorting like a little piggy for about a month, but seems a little worse now, especially when she is laying down. Thanks for any help. Little Gracie is adorable, and the love of our life here on the farm. |
