You may not be giving enough thiamin, he needs 5 mg/pound 2 to 3 times a day. If you are using Forstified B Complex this is 1 cc per 20 pounds, if you are using the regular B Complex this is 1 cc per 2 to 3 pounds. You can't go by the dose on the bottle you have to give it according to the amount of thiamin (vitamin B1) in each cc. Give a probiotic to help restore the micorbes in his gut that naturally produce the thiamin he needs. You can likley discontinue the penicillin. You will need to start therapy on his legs. Get him "draped" over a hay bale 2 to 4 times a day and stretch and massage his legs. The muscles and tendon will permanently shortenen and atrophy in a very short time. If you have been seriously underdosing the thiamin he may not fully recover, the brain and nerve damage may be continuing. But raising the dose is always worth a try to see if his condition improves. |

Hi, my goat started showing symptoms of polio last week, since then we have been treating him with vitamin b shots and penicillin. After a week, his head is still to his flank, and he is unable to stand. He is eating hay. Also, should I still continue to give him vitamin b shots. Is there a chance that he will never fully recover? Thank you!! |
