thankyou very much maggie she is heaps better today and up and around. I will be reading more about our beautiful girl and giving her a better diet. I work in a bakery and she absolutely loves bread and that is what we were giving her as a treat and to entice her to go to bed at night so I think that I will slow that down alot. Have printed out your advice and will keep for further reference. Thanks again.

Give her 1/2 cup of vegetable oil using a turkey baster. Get her up and stand her on a slant with her front end higher than her rear end. Massage her left abdomen just in front of her hip very deeply to break up the bubbles trapping the gas and help her to burp. Yes you probably "overloved" her with food, introduce new feed very slowly, increasing it every couple of days by a handful. Too much variety too quickly upsets teh rumen microbes making for a very sick goat. If this doesn't help in about 30 minutes get her to a vet. She is likely alos very wormy. I would deworm her with Ivomec Injectable for Cattle, give 1 cc per 30 pounds for 2 days but give it orally not as an injection. Repeat in 2 weeks.

could someone please help me? we have a beautiful saanen goat that was given to us. we have no other goats and have never had them before. we rescued her from living on a thether for 2years. she roams freely on our property and usually lively friendly and full of fun and mischief. she has been lying down all day and seems to be bloated (more then usual as she is a bit of a piggy!) her pupils are dialated. she looks really miserable. usually when we are near her she is so excited she is beside herself. I am not sure whether to call the vet or whether maybe we have just overloved her with food. Husband has just come in and said that her stomach is really gurgling badly????}
