This is foot rot, trim the pocket out and dig all of the crumbly stuff out. You can use a bleach solution or kopertox (a horse hoof medication for treating thrush) to help heal it. |

I'm back. My goat with the prolonged respiratory problems is hanging on (amazing!!) She still is breathing abnormally and has low energy but has gained 8lbs since my last posting (up to 30lbs now) but her latest problem is she is not putting much pressure on her back hoof. I trimmed it up and found a soft orange material. Trimming that away seemed to help alittle, I did alittle more trimming last night and dug alittle crumbly white material out. I have read abunch about foot scald and rot but it doeasn't seem to fit. Someone in the area sugested it might be frost bite and to soak the foot in an epsom salt bath- we had two weeks of cold (45 below zero) and the goats are in unheated barn and have access to outdoors but don't spend too much time in the snow. Suggestions? Thanks!! Ellie |
