First the Safeguard is largely ineffective anymore no matter what dose or for how many days it si given. This is especially true if you live in the southeast or Texas. But the recommended dose is 4 times the horse dose by weight for 5 consecutive days, repeat in 2 weeks for best results. For a 25 pound goat dose for 100 pounds of horse. It is very safe you can give 100 times the amount and not do any harm, probably won't harm the parasites either, though. For the Strongid T the recommendation is the same 4 times the horse dose by weight. I would give for 2 to 3 days and repeat in 2 weeks. Three weeks after deworming you might want to have a fecal exam done to see if it was effective. Most goats need deworming 4 to 6 times a year.

For general health and husbandry care questions I recommend joining Goatworld for 6.00 a year and posting to our regular forum. Your small membership fee helps keep this website and the Goat 911 Capri medic service up.

First, I appoligize if this is not posted in the right catagory. I couldn't find a general health catagory.

I would like to deworm my 2 kids ( both 3-5 months). I have SafeGuard paste for horses as well as Strongid T liquid. Can I use either of these and if so, how much per pound of goat? I know they have never been dewormed before I bought them.

Thanks again!
