Well you're right the kid won't be that small, but it will be a good deal smaller than a term kid. Sounds like she is in trouble and can't get them out now. Take her temp she may have already started to get an infection from the decomposing fetuses. Start her on antibiotics. It could be she needs help delivering the dead kids. Dead fetuses are always hard to deliver, they get dry and are stiff. And they are often not in the right position. So either you will have to glove up and go in or get her to a vet. Today (Tue) the doe is off her feed and water. Yesterday she seemed fine and eating good. If this doe aborted wouldn't the fetus be near grown since she didn't lack but 3 weeks?? I looked the pasture over good and no sign of a fetus where she aborted. She is just laying around and I have to make her get up. Thanks Steve |

Yes she is aborting. Amazingly enough she may have "cleaned up" any aborted fetuses (pretty gross but they often eat the placenta). A fetus this early is amazingly small. It can take several days for a doe to finish aborting. This may indicate a chlamydia infection in which case it might be a good idea to give her and every other pregnant doe and your bucks LA 200 at 1 cc per 30 pounds once every other day by SQ injection for 3 treatments. This will help stop an abortion storm caused by chlamydia infection in the herd. There is usually no other sign of disease except late term abortions. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

This (Boer)doe has had bloody discharge since yesterday (Sun). She was up and down and pushed a couple of times like she was in labor. There was also a small amount of what looked like afterbirth on the ground but no babies I moved her into the barn fed and watered her last night. Today she is up eating good and looks like everything is fine. Still having a little bloody discharge today but seems to be doing fine otherwise. Reckon this doe is aborting?? What should I do??
