Treat for 10 pounds. Sulfa drugs have a wide margin of safety. But if the kid is less than 4 weeks old it isn't coccidia and the Sulfa drug won't help. If the kid is locked up in the barn with mom he is likely just over nursing and has scours from a bit too much milk.

It could be e coli or salmonella, the incubation for these is much shorter, but the kid would be very very sick AND have diarrhea. For e coli or salmonella Scour Halt piglet medication usually helps, give as for piglets following the directions on the bottle.

Sure but a syringe might fit better, most drench guns start at about 5 cc which is way too much for a little kid.

Is this for an adult or a kid? The dose is the same either way, 1 cc per 5 pounds for 5 days given orally. I use a syringe of the appropriate size with the needle removed. You do not dilute, use it as it comes straight from the bottle.

The scours should clear up in a day or two. If they don't then worms may not be her problem. If she still has scours in 3 days start treating for coccidia. Adults don't often get coccidia but stressed goats do sometimes, can't hurt to try treating for it.

I give 3cc per 10pound for the doe so that should be fine right. The doe still eats hay and grain and will walk around alright so I guess she will be alright.

The LA 200 will not help with scours. It is an antibiotic to be used for bacterial infections only. If she doesn't have a fever (and I don't think she does) she does not have a bacterial infection.

If you used the Ivermectin Sheep Drench you only gave enough for a 20 to 22 pound doe. You need to triple the sheep dose too. So that would be 3 cc for every 9 pounds of weight....

I give SQ injections in the loose skin over the lower ribs just behind the front elbow. Sometimes I use the loose skin just behind the shoulder blade.

She is too young for coccidia. Coccidia have a life span of at least 3 weeks. I suspect coccidia in any kid with scours that is over 6 weeks old. Kids are usually first exposed when they start eating solid food at about 3 to 4 weeks old.

The best treatment is to give a sulfa drug. You can get Sulmet, Dimethox or Albon 12.5% drinking water solution at most feed stores. You use this directly from the bottle, do not add it to their water (they won't drink it, it tastes terrible). Give 1 cc per 5 pounds for 5 straight days. You must dose for all 5 days or you have to start over. This is to treat kids with diarrhea from coccidia. To help prevent coccidia you can start dosing kids once a week at 3 weeks old and continue until they are about 6 months old with the 1 cc per 5 pounds dose.

Coccidia rarely cause any problems in adult goats as adults develop a partial immunity to them. All goats carry a few coccidia.

it has been rainy here for a coupel of days. the reason I was worried is that they say if they have scours that could have cocci. Can you tell me how to tell if it is cocci and how to treat it so I can be prepared. Thanks

You can give pepto bismol at about half the childs dose. Likely it just got a bit too much milk to drink and the scours will correct themselves. If the goats are staying in because of bad weather the kids get more of a chance to overfeed when being nursed and tend to get scours.
