Treat as for pinkeye. Give LA 200 at 1 cc per 30 pounds (probably about 1/3 cc) by SQ injection once a day. Put triple antibiotic eye ointment into the eyes 2 to 3 times a day. Be sure she is getting enough to eat I recommend putting her with her mom (if her mom will take her) in a small pen and helping her to nurse and/or bottle feeding her, just to be sure. She may have congenital cataracts and will be blind all her life. But treat for pinkeye and see if she gets better in a week or so. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I have a kid that was born today with cloudy eyes, she evidently can't see anything. What can I do. |

To me this sounds like pinkeye. The eye can become very cloudy white with blood vessels growing out through it. I like to give LA 200 (oxytetracycline, you can use Biomycin 200 or Agrimycin, they are all oxytet) and give 1 cc per 30 pounds once a day by SQ injection until the eye is clear. Put triple antibiotic eye ointment in the eye 2 to 3 times a day if you can. Wash the accumulated and dried tears off with warm water. Keep her isolated this is very contagious and can cause abortions in your other does. It is also contagious to humans wash carefully after treating. The oxytet may also help protect her pregnancy if this pinkeye is caused by chlamydia. If you are worried about any other pregnant does you can give them the same dsoe but use it every other day for 3 treatments. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Inspect the eye closely. Goats have a couple of eyelids and I have had something similar to tis in Nevada when my hay had foxtails (grass seeds) that got in the eyes between the lid. If that is the problem then the eye will clear and be fine once you get it out. But getting it out can be the problem/you may need to see the vet and ask for an antibiotic ottic drop if that is your problem. Other then that I have had no experience with other eye problems. Hello. I have a pregnant doe with one eye that is soild white and some dark red around the edges. It looks cloudy. We thought it was pink eye but the more we look we are not sure. We have the doe in her own pen away from the rest of the herd. Does this sound like pinkeye or is it something else? She is a new doe to us (of course) and she's not real friendly. She is eatting fine and acting ok. Anything would be of great help. I just don't want to loose the kids. Thanks |
