Semi Good news! Convinced Hubby to take her to the vet with the promise we'd spend no more than her monitary worth!

We took her up to Dr. Richardson (wonderful vet), he determined it to be an absess that ruptured, and some of the flesh around it was nectrotic, so we got her on antibiotics, tetanus and banamine.
They shaved her, pulled some puss out to see how bad it was, gave her the shots, gave me a bunch of needles all for only $37!

We had to go out to buy the antibiotics because they didn't have a small enough size there (the bottle they had would last me several years and we didnt need that much) which ended up being $40 but it's good for all animals for all sorts of things so I figured that in as an investment :-)

So she's all set, I would have never thought of an absess but the smell really should have alerted me to it, but she's all set! Yay Lily!

If it is a stifle injury, it will take a long time to heal. If you cannot feel any broken bones or bones out of place go here and look: http://www.imagecyte.com/animations/bones.html
I just may take some pain medication and time. I only take purebreds to the vet. I know that may sound cruel but for me it is a reality check I cannot put $600 or $700 in a goat that has only sentimental value. I had a little wether, who is the companion of one of my purebred bucks, with a stifle injury a while back. The upper hind quarter was extremely hard and painful for him and he could not get up and get around for about a week. It took a while to heal and I put him in the wood shed by himself so the others would not pick on him. If you cannot feel any broken bones and it is a stifle joint injury she will heal but it takes time. If she does have a broken Femur or Tibia the cost of surgery is outrageous. I set broken Metacarpal or Metatarsus bones myself.
Good luck and the blessings of God be with you.
Regards, Juanita

I checked her leg today, it feels like the top part, her thigh area and knee area are very awkward, and rock hard. She is up on three legs and hobbling around like that, she was given some banamine and I think I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow to at least get Xray's to find out what my options are.

She's my girl ya know? I may not be big into showing and too terribly knowledgable, but I love my little fellas.

Okay great! Going to go do it in daylight as there is no light in the small hoof barn anymore (Dag gum septic people severed the electric line) Still give her banamine too right? She's about 20 lbs so .2cc's?

Jess:
Feel the bones in the leg and hoof that is OK. Go slowly and see what the differance is between the 2 legs. She could have gotten her hind leg caught in the fencing when she went over ther fence. Do this even though she yells. Try to see if it is broken or out of socket.

Last night at about 3 am, all my guys were fine, I have only a few goats, and they are for hobby/pets mostly. The one that is hurt, is a Lily, she's my sweetheart and I am worried sick but all the vets here are closed right now so I need to know what to do till Monday. I'm not allowed to call the emergency vet for any of the livestock except our one calf, and the horses per money managing husband.

When I went out she was laying in the horse pasture ( apparently the fence between them had been smooshed down to jumping height, and when I went over to her she started making this god aweful sound I never heard a goat make before. I tried to lift her onto her feet but she only fell over, so I lifted her and carried her into the small foot pen (goat/sheep/calf) and put her in the barn. After some coaxing she stood, on three legs, refusing to move the back right at all. When I touched it, she screamed. There is no bone poking through, the leg looks like it's proper except for the hoof is kinda curled under. She is a younger doe, about a year and pregnant (thanks auction house). I don't want to put her down, husband is baulking at the idea of a $200+ vet bill for a $40 goat. Is there anything at all I can do for now, I think I can convince him to go to the vet on Monday, but I still have over 24 hrs of her agony.

I have Bute and Banamine on hand. Bute in tablet form, Banamine in injection of course.

Please help! I am worried sick.
