I have saved one buck goat that was born at 127 days. The doe died but would have mede it if I had known to feed no more than 1 oz at no more than 2 hour intrevals. They must be fed every 2 hours and if they are to weak you must tube feed. it can be done but the cost on your personal time is tremdous; I was nearly crazy at the end of 3 weeks when I could move the buck to q4h feedings. the doe dies at nine days when I had to go to town and missed just one 2 hour feeding. Most kids born at 139 days or sooner do not survive long. They likely will not be able to stand on their own for several days. You will likely need to tube feed (many can't suck this early) and stimulate them to poop. Being prepared to give SQ fluids will help. be very careful about using a heating pad since they are likely not going to be able to move off of it. A heating pad really dries them out leaving them very dehydrated. Have the vet test the palcenta and any dead kids for chlamydia and toxoplasmosis. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

Maggie: The vet just left and found the same thing as I. No dilation yet. He gave her a injection to start the labor. And also a antibiotic. I have 25-36 hrs before this will work. Or as the vet said maybe sooner..........Now I am off to find out how to take care of premie kids. Thanks again Deb

Maggie: Thank you so much for the quick reply. I do have a call in for the Vet to stop by. Your directions are great. And greatly appreciated. I assume she had gotten hit by the one doe who is a total bully. But I will have the vet check her over. I also think the kids are dead. Again thank you so much for being there. And calming a very stressed gal. "S" Deb

Once the water sac comes out THE DOE IS IN LABOR, whether she is pushing or not. The general rule for a normal kidding is that once the water sac appears you should have a kid within 30 minutes, then no more than 30 minutes between kids then the placenta should pass within 30 minutes after the last kid. This is likely an abortion going on. The cervix is at the inside end of the birth canal, the vulva is at the outside end. You should probably lube up good and see if something is hung up at the cervix. The doe won't push until something comes up against and begins to enter the cervix. So she is essentially in trouble or just having a late term abortion. I am willing to bet the kids are dead. If it is caused by chlamydia (the most common cause of late term abortions) you will want to isolate her to keep her from infecting other does. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

I had problems with this same doe last yr. She had triplets and the first kid was stuck on her hip bone. All came out good, after almost loosing mom. Yesterday she had her water sack hanging out. Took her sixteen hrs to finally break the sack. (no contractions) I am in contact with a breeder who has more experience than me. But being early hrs I needed some help. She is not in labor, I did check her out. And the cervix is not dialated. But I did slowly enter a bit, and found no head in the cannel. Of course with what she went threw last yr, I am a bit learly. She would be either 11 days early or three weeks early. About 5am I gave her 30CC NutriDrench. She is walking stiffly, but still eating fine. And does not seem to be in any stress or any hurry to have the kids out. Do I need to force myself in further? Or just leave her alone, and let back out with the rest of the herd? Until she starts to bear down I did not Know if I should bother her anymore?????? Deb Deb
