If the kid is nursing and doing well and the doe is being a good mother, by all means leave them together. She doesn't need the stress of losing her baby. If you are not sure whether the kid is getting enough you can offer a supplemental bottle (there is a very good homemade milk replacer recipe on the Articles page under Kids and Kidding). I have very successfully "co-raised" many kids, I provide the milk, the mom does the mothering and gives what milk she can. Even my orphans are still raised by the herd, I leave my bottle kids with the does and their kids. Make sure the milk is very warm, a regular human baby bottle works fine so long as the hole is big enough to allow the milk to flow freely.

A half to 1/3 dose of CMPK (if the dose is for cattle) should be fine. I am assuming the doe can stand up on her own is eating and drinking?

Thanks for the input. Charlotte has had a hard time, besides being too young, she only had one buck kid and he was BIG, so that was an emergency trip to the vet to have him pulled. I really want to give her lots of TLC. I am going to continue with the B-Complex (6cc) twice a day for 7 more days. I'm going to give her half dose of CMPK for the same amount of time. Is that enough? Do I really need to take the kid off of her? If it's important I will, I just hate to take kid's away from their Mom's.
Thanks for all the help, I don't know what I would do without 411 and 911.

Keep giving the thiamin and maybe give her some CMPK or Tums tablets (or use any antacid with calcium as the main ingredient). Could be either one and treating for both won't hurt. Bottle feed the kids. Sounds like you are well on the way to getting things back under control.

Janette, Great that she is feeling better, if it is polio, it is very important to keep up with the thaimin. She will need it until her own body starts making it again. Keep us posted on how she is doing.

Thanks Violet. Charlotte is feeling better. I'm not sure if it was the Milk of Magnesia or the B-Complex so I waited four hours and dosed her again with both. I think it might be polio because I've never seen one have trouble with the back legs from bloat. Thanks again for the help.

Janette, since the kids are 2 weeks, your doe could have polio, If so she needs the thiamin, I would give her the fortified B vit. It has 100mg thiamin/cc every 6 hours for the first 24, If it isn't polio, the b vits. won't hurt, if it is it could save her life. I would cut the dose to 6cc.
If the thiamin seems to help, treat twice a day for at least 7 more days. Keep us posted. Maybe Maggie will have some better advice, she should be here in the morning.

Hi Janette, sounds like she might have milk fever, if so she needs CMPK or any calcium product. Read the articles on milk fever, see if it fits. If it is, you need to act fast...

She is also spitting out her cud and there are no gut sounds. I gave her 12 cc of Fortified B-Complex (She weighs approx. 90 lbs) and I'm going to give her some mineral oil.

I have a 10 month old Saanen doe that kidded two weeks ago. She is having a hard time standing up, her back legs aren't working too well and she is crying. Her temp is 101.9 I gave her a teaspoon of baking soda because my husband thought it was bloat but when I saw her I knew it was something else, I just can't think of what. Any help would be appreciated.
