One of my neighbor's older does recently aborted a single fetus about 2 - 3 weeks ago. She still appears pregnant. The fetus was about 6-8 inches, the doe was bred in early October. The doe's temperature is normal (102), she is eating and grazing and pooping normally. She does look "hunched up" and stands like she is cold or in pain, although she gives no other indication of being in distress. The owner said she has some age on her, and said this is normal behavior for this goat. We are wondering if she could have aborted only one fetus and still be pregnant. |

Sandy, I just read an article where a ewe gave bith to twins, and then a month later had a single birth, this is probably pretty rare, but the article said they were all doing good. My guess would be though, that the uterus is just still swollen. I would ask her if the doe passed the plasenta though, that could be the reason for the hunched back, and possible pain. I also had an older Boer doe abort in later term, kids were probably about a month early, took a few weeks before the doe didn't look pregnant. http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/hilltopacres/
