Maggie, Thanks for all your help. Just wanted to let you know that my doe had twin bucks Wednesday morning. Everything went normally and she and the babies are doing great. They weighed 10 pounds each. Thanks again for taking the time to listen and helping me to feel at ease with this doe as she got closer to her kidding date.

No need for banamine she isn't hurting. I have a couple of does that have done in the past and I didn't do anything. Yes she would probably be fine on nothing but hay until right before or just after she kids. Many dairy goat breeders advocate this, that dry does do not need grain. And boers were developed for thriving in very harsh conditions with little or no extra feed....

I'm glad to hear that it should be alright for kidding like this, because I think she is really close. This doe is one that I think the only way to keep her little short legged self from getting too fat is NO grain at all. (?) I really watched what I fed this season to avoid overweight does. They only get a 1/2 cup in the morning, and 1/2 cup in the evening. Free choice hay, though. alfalfa mostly. Should I look for the prolapse to be really hanging out badly at kidding time? I will put the preparation H on her. Do you think a shot of banamine would help any? Other than the problem in her hind end, she is acting perfectly normal. Eating, drinking, and chewing cud.

This is a prolapsed vagina. It is pretty common in short bodied does that are carrying alot fo kids or big kids and that are overweight. it becomes more noticable and larger as they near birthing because all of the muscles, tendons and ligamnets back there become slack and don't hold it in anymore. It seldom causes any trouble with kidding and should resolve after she kids. Try to keep it clean and lubed with vaseline or Preparation H. Watch her weigh with future pregnancies, being aware that goats put on fat inside the abdominal cavity long before they show any fat under the skin or on the backbone or hips.

I just went out and checked on her again 5 hours later; 4:30 a.m. It is getting worse. Now there is a small red mass coming from the outside of her vulva. A little smaller maybe than a golf ball in size. She was still laying down. I didn't make her get up, beings that it is sleepy time for all the girls in the barn.

Hi Theresa,
I would think that if she is acting fine, eating and chewing her cud, that everything is ok. I have seen that in some does, looks like the kids could just about walk out, then the doe stands up and all looks normal. I think it is just preasure from the way she is laying. I would just keep a close eye on her unless she seems to be in trouble.

I have a doe that is ready to kid this week. When she is laying down, she is very loose in the back end. I seen some clear discharge this evening at feed time, thought maybe she is going to kid tonight. We have been watching her closely, and when she lays, she opens up largely enough to see what appears to be the inside of her vagina. My daughter thought it was the water bag, but after closer looking, it is red, like the inside wall. It is 11:30 p.m. here, and plan on calling my vet first thing in the A.M. but for now, I am wanting to know whether this doe could have her kids if she is getting a prolapsed vagina? Never seen anything like it before. She is a small, short percentage boer doe, she is heavy. Possibly carrying triplets. She has been eating well. She is chewing her cud even now. When she is standing, you cannot tell there is anything wrong in her back end, only when she lies down. If this is what is happening, what do I do? Had two other does to kid today, no problems. Thanks for the help
