Ok, dad said her eyes were white, indicationg worms. He has wormed her, and we are bottle-feeding the babies. He was feeding mama sweet feed, but has changed to "goat feed" whatever that is. The babies are five days old and six days old. Hers is the five day old. She is the only adult goat in the pasture, since the other mama died the day after delivery. Thank you all so much for the info. I will let you know how it turns out.

Like Violet said check for parasite induced anemia by checking the lower inner eyelids, they should be bright deep pink. If they are pale pink or white worm with Ivomec Injectable for Cattle at 1 cc per 25 pounds GIVEN ORALLY. You can also give Geritol at the adult dose twice a day for a couple of weeks to help rebuild her blood. She may be hypocalcemic, have low calcium and woudl benefit from getting CMPK gel or liquid 3 to 4 times a day at 1/4 to 1/2 the cattle dose. You can get this or a similar product for treating milk fever in cattle at most feed stores.

The kids are putting a tremendous drain on her, she will stop producing any milk soon if she doesn't start eating better. You can help by starting the kids on supplemental bottles 2 to 3 times a day. There is a very good homemade milk replacer recipe on the articles page under th heading Kids and Kidding. Aking her to feed 2 kids when she can't even feed herself is making the problem worse. Be sure the other goats aren't bullying her out of the feed.

Hi Stephanie, The first thing to check is her inner bottom eyelids, they should be nice and pink, just like yours, if they are pale or white she probably has worms. A shot of Vit B complex never hurts, that is usually the first two things I do if I think there might be a problem. We will need more info on what her diet is and such, also try to get her temp. it should be in the range of 102. When did she kid? How many is she feeding? Any other symptoms? Let us know.

My dad has a mama goat taking care of her own and an orphan. She looks poor, and she's not eating much. We are having to hold her to let the babies nurse. Is there anything we can do to help her out, nutrition-wise?
