Our newborn doe kid seems to have very runny poop. Both kids passed the black stool, the buck seems to be pooping little yellow berries, but the doe kid is quite runny. Mom is doing well and the kid seems to be feeding real good, just wondering if it is normal for a newborn to have this or not.

Sometimes a kid eats a bit too much or the milk is very rich and gets diarrhea. The colostrum also acts like a laxative. This usually corrects itself in a day or so.

Thanks Maggie! That's a relief to hear.

I had an interesting birth with this one - the first sac appeared, but after an hour, she hadn't made any progress. She's a big, roomy doe who has kidded before, so I was concerned and called the vet for advice. He said to break the sac and feel inside and I might need to manipulate the kid to get it into position. I did, but didn't feel a kid. I did find another sac. I decided to wait an hour to see what happened. After about 30 minutes, she pushed out a kid with it's own sac with no problem at all. About 10 minutes later she delivered the second kid with no sac. I'm guessing the first sac I saw contained a kid who got pushed back behind a second kid and then neither could get into position. Once the sac was broke, that kid slipped back out of the way and the other was able to come out. In any case, both kids seem healthy.

Sadly, the little boy has parrot mouth. Since these are meat goats, the best I can hope for is to get him weaned and send him to the butcher. He's cute - but I can see why they call it parrot mouth! He looks like he has a beak.
