hopefully she will be...the vet was back again today because she hadnt really made any improvement since yesterday and her hind leg was really bothering her. he determined its not pneumonia or anything bactiral but a virus that started in her lungs and has now moved to her joints as well. He gave her a steroid shot, a vitamin e shot and something else as well and gave us three more shots to give her over the next four days so hopefully she can pull through. |

just an update so no one really needs to post if they dont want to. The vet has come and gone, and gave her a long acting (or lasting I cant remember what he called it) anitibiotic shot that should clear her ailment up. He said her lungs were pretty clear but were inflamed and thats what was causing the problem. He said there has been a lot of pneumonia developing lately cause our weathers been so cold and damp but with our doe we caught it early enough so that it can be fairly easily treated. |

Hi...sorry if this is a double post but my computer messed up so I'm not sure if the message went through. Anyways, I have a sick doe on my hands and I'm not sure how concerned I should be. I have a call in to the vet but they wont be able to be here until about 9:30ish or around there. She has been fine up until yesterday when she started to pant. She's had interest in her grain but not so much her hay...her tounge is also bright pink and it seems to me she feels a bit warm its been very cold here lately and although we do our best to make sure they goats are warm enough I'm concerned this could be pneumonia. Any ideas? |

This could be pneumonia. It would be very helpful to get an actual temperature on the doe. A fever would help nail down the diagnosis of an infection that would be treatable with antibiotics and a pain and fever reducer. I may be best to wait for the vet and not treat right now. Any treatment you do may mask important symptoms. All goats will feel warm to us as their body temperature is considerably higher than ours. If you don't have a thermometer please get one. The digital ones from the drug store work great. it is your most important diagnostic tool and is always the first question your vet or one of the capri medics asks. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic
