Thanks Maggie. We were both concerned about the pregnant does. I also wasn't sure if the LA-200 was safe in pregnant does. I'll let him know about giving the LA-200 Sandi |

It likely is chlamydia but rarely does an eye infection lead to abortion. The chlamydia bacteria has to be introduced into the uterus (usually a sexually transmitted disease) for it to cause abortion. I have had pinkeye in my pregnant does but never an abortion caused by chlamydia. I find that giving oxytet (LA 200) at 1 cc per 30 pounds by SQ injection once a day helps to clear pinkeye very fast. If you are still worried about your pregnant does you can give them oxytet too at the same dose but every other day for 3 treatments. Be careful when treating the doe with pinkeye, it is contagious to humans. Wear gloves and wash up well after treating. Maggie Leman Goat 911 Capri Medic

My neighbor's doe has a watery, cloudy eye. It occurred suddenly. We are treating her with terramycin eye ointment. I've read that sometimes eye infections are caused by chlamydia, which also causes abortion. He has 2 pregnant does with this one, and I have several pregnant does of my own. Is there any way to know if we were dealing with chlamydia? |
