I have a 3 month old buck when he tries to urinate, he seems to be in pain, calling out and stretching his neck oddly (that was this morning before work at 6:30 a.m.) It's 12:44 pm and I just arrived to check on him. He did not follow the other goats out of the barn, he is laying in the back corner, I will check his temp and post it on a follow-up Thanks Patti Long Carrollton, GA 770.318.9402 |

I have a 3 mo. old buck that is down. this morning he had a diffcult time urinating. It was painful for him, making odd sounds and stretching his neck oddly. Now at 12:50 he is down in the barn, he did not follow all of the other goats out as he usually does. He seems warm I will post his temp on a follow up posting. Patti, This goat needs to see a vet right away. He is showing symptoms of having bladder stones and being blocked. Soon his bladder may burst and he will die of uremic poisoning. If he can urinate some you may be able to dissolve the stones by giving 2 teaspoons of ammonium chloride dissolved in about 10 to 15 ccs of water three times a day until he is urinating freely again. Then twice a day for a couple more weeks to dissolve all of the stones in his bladder (there is never just one stone there are hundreds filling the bladder). A vet will put him on antibioitcs and give him some pain and inflammation reducing drugs to help keep his urethra open. This condition is usually caused by a diet high in phosphorus (grain) and low in calcium. Feel free to call or email me if you like. My contact info is on the Capri Medic contact list. I am in NC.
